Planning in Columbia County?

Columbia County Democratic Committee 1st Vice Chair, Cyndy Hall, asks the hard questions in her recent Letter To The Editor, "What's the Plan?".

During her 36 years of public school teaching, she observed first hand, the struggles and concerns of families trying to make ends meet. She believes government plays a vital role in helping people secure good paying jobs, decent housing and the best education possible, while keeping taxes down. She asks what local planning is on the front burner to help the local economy? What actions are underway? What are the results?

Columbia County Democrats will continue to speak out on all issues that effect the daily lives of all Columbia County residents.

My View by Supervisor William Hughes Jr. Published in the Register-Star

My View

Columbia County Democrats, who are we, what do we stand for? The late Ron Brown put it best when he wrote, the common thread of Democratic history, from Thomas Jefferson to Bill Clinton, has been an abiding faith in the judgment of hardworking American families, and a commitment to helping the excluded, the disenfranchised and the poor strengthen our nation by earning themselves a piece of the American dream.

As elected Democratic leaders here in Columbia County, we continue to fight for the poor and disenfranchised by amending old legislation and insisting on open government.

Letter by Virginia Martin On the Hudson Correctional Facility printed in Register-Star April 2, 2008

Congratulations to the HCF community. Now, let’s review the facts.

To the editor:

As a Democrat, I’m immensely relieved to learn that the Hudson Correctional Facility will not be closed. I’m delighted that the families of the correctional officers and the other staff that work there can breathe a deep, and overdue, sigh of relief.

Now, I think it’s necessary that another perspective about this ill-fated initiative, which had its roots as a good, fiscally conscious, taxpayer-friendly, cost-cutting mechanism that would save us all tax dollars, be laid out there for readers.
